Show Review

A quirky, LA based multi-instrumentalist, Evan Voytas is on the kind of street-smart, '80s tip we think you should lean on. During the big bash we threw in Austin this past spring, we invited Voytas and his band to jam, as well as offer some insight into what inspires his creative endeavors. Turns out the big blue skies hanging over New Mexico fuel a lot of what Voytas does...exotic, hypnotic spaces that the native Pennsylvanian feels compelled to fill with his peculiar, pop-and-bop aesthetic. The result is a sound that runs on the right side of rampant, and is cartoonish in a darling way. Voytas favors freaky falsettos, skittish percussive flavors, and buoyed bass runs for a nonchalant kind of funk, and were happy to serve it all with our latest performance/interview offering.
