Show Review

For the final video installment from last autumn's Launch Pad Series, we turn to a chirpy capture of Oxford outfit Jonquil. Led by singer Hugo Manuel, the band turn in a sunny breed of indie pop here, humming with inventive percussive rhythms, new wave inspired synths, and a flurry of flickering fret work, all buzzing about songs from their 2010 release One Hundred Suns, as well as a few choice cuts from their most recent album Point of Go. For his part, Manuel helms the group with a somewhat nostalgic presence. Though the vibe here is decidedly light and uplifting, his rich melodies share a rich tradition with the likes of Morrissey, Stuart Murdoch, and Stephin Merritt. Check out the band's extended performance and interview, all neatly packaged in this compelling profile piece of the band.
