Show Review

Our latest concert cut sees Norway's Casiokids bring some flashy late night exuberance to our recent Launch Pad Series, turning one of the BK's storied rock rooms into a sparkling, European flavored discothque of sorts. The performance featured here is a gooey, gob of fun indeed; one powered by bouts of bouncy beats, short circuiting keyboard lines, a heady haze of synthetics, and a flood of foxy falsettos. We're calling it Norwegian soul, but soul that's sped up and techno-tweaked in some inventive, willy wonka-style sound factory. Guess that makes' this our golden ticket of sorts. Cash that sucker in below.

Artist Bio

Norwegian-based group Casiokids are excited to announce their new full-length release, Aabenbaringen over aaskammen, out on October 11 on Polyvinyl. Aabenbaringen over aaskammen ("The Revelation over the mountain") is the follow up to their critically acclaimed US singles collection Topp stemning p lokal bar ("Great vibe at local bar"), hailed by Pitchfork as "tropic and cosmican uncommonly ripened and grounded debut." The forthcoming album features a collaboration with labelmates of Montreal and will be released on CD/MP3/LP (Limited Edition of 500 copies 180 Gram Blue Vinyl).

Over the last year Casiokids have left audiences around the world mesmerized. The group was hand-picked by fellow Norwegians a-ha as a potential recipient of one of four talent grants the band was offering, and won the coveted prize through a popular vote, affording them the opportunity to open for them on the group's farewell tour last fall a trek they promptly followed-up with a one-week North American tour sandwiched between festival appearances in England, Poland and Australia. Casiokids were also nominated for a Spellemann Award (the Norwegian equivalent of a Grammy) at the same time they were playing sold out shows across the U.S. with labelmates Starfucker this past Spring. Incorporating a blend of shadow puppets, video projections and animal costumes into their live show AOL Spinner noted, "it's no wonder concert-goers can't stop raving about this high energy Norwegian export."

And yet, amidst all of the seemingly constant jet setting and endless stream of accolades bestowed upon them, Casiokids managed to set aside an uninterrupted block of time to record a new album. (Well, that's not entirely true. There were those days in April when they played Mexico City and Russia in the same weekend.)

Amidst all of the constant jet setting they were able to complete an album that with new song styles and enhanced instrumentation. The resulting album is unlike anything Casiokids has released thus far. With Aabenbaringen over aaskammen, the band devoted extra attention to the recording process. Frontman Ketil Kinden Endresen stated "Even though we've become more interested in production possibilities, we still wanted to retain the rawness of the first two records. The dulcet tones of the Casio will always be at the core of our manifesto."
