Show Review

Given the Mardi Gras-like merry-go-round of BBQ, booze, bands, and general debauchery, the vibe at SXSW can understandably get a little overwhelming at times. This kind of sensory overload is why you make the trip to Texas of course, but every now and then it's nice to snag a breath and get your physical and mental bearings, so to speak. When a performance provides such a opporutnity, it's even better. We saw it when Icelandic composer Olafur Arnalds played Baeble's Launch Pad event and again when British songwriter Laura Mvula took the stage at Hype Hotel to provide a wondrous, musical pause. Cooling off a sweaty capacity crowd with a fresh breeze of jazz, soul, folk, and classical numbers from her stunning debut, Sing To The Moon, Mvula's performance was a memorable moment of musical refinement SXSW desperately needed, and now it's classing up the site with this long awaited release of one of our favorite performances.

One, two, three, four.
Our love is like the morning clouds, like the morning dew that goes away.
Our love is like the morning clouds, like the morning dew that goes away early
Nothing lasts but memories.
The best ones seem to go by slow.
Try to write the perfect song for you, then I realize it didn't belong, It didn't belong to me.
Our love is like the morning clouds, like the morning dew that goes away.
Our love is like the morning clouds, like the morning dew that goes away early
Heaven knows how long to go.
We never have a thing to show.
Every day seems like the same.
Then I realized I didn't belong to you, I didn't belong to you.
Our love is like the morning clouds, like the morning dew that goes away.
Our love is like the morning clouds, like the morning dew that goes away early
Like the morning dew
Love is like the morning clouds
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
Bear with us while the sound improves as we go on.
I recently released an album called "Sing To The Moon" and all the songs I'm going to play for you tonight are on the album.
I'd like to play the first song that I wrote for the album for you now, and this song is called "She.
" She walked toward you with her head down low.
She wondered if there's a way out of the blue.
Who's gonna take her home this time? She knew that this time wouldn't be the last time.
There she waits looking for a savior, someone to save her from her dying self.
Always taking 10 steps back and 1 step forward, she's tired, but she don't stop.
She don't stop, she don't stop, she don't stop.
She don't stop, she don't stop, she don't stop.
Every day she stood, hoping for a new light.
She closed her eyes and she heard a small voice say, "You don't stop, no, you belong to me.
" She cried, maybe it's too late.
Don't stop, don't stop, don't stop, don't stop.
She don't stop, she don't stop, she don't stop.
She don't stop, she don't stop, she don't stop.
She don't stop, she don't stop, she don't stop.
She don't stop, she don't stop, she don't stop.
She don't stop, she don't stop, she don't stop.
She walked towards you with the head down low.
She wondered if there's a way out of the blue.
Who's gonna take her home this time? She knew that this time wouldn't be the last time.
Thank you.
I'm going to do a song that my very lovely husband loves.
In fact, it's the only song that I've written that he likes, so I have to do it everywhere I go.
And this song is called "Let Me Fall.
" Yes! String.
I wait, nervously muddle through.
You found me here alone.
I followed empty dreams for you.
I wait, out of the folly fields.
Don't try to save me now.
I wonder how it feels to be free.
And I pray, I pray that I would sleep, sleep for a thousand years there in your arms.
Won't you let my soul shine like the morning sun? Another day has come, so let me be
Let me fall, let me fall.
Let me fall, let me fall
I wait, nervously muddle through.
You found me here alone.
I followed empty dreams for years.
And I wait, out of the folly fields.
Don't try to save me now, another day is here.
Let me fall, let me fall.
Let me fall, let me...
I pray, I pray that I would sleep, sleep for a thousand years there in your arms.
Won't you let my soul shine like the morning sun? Another day has come, so let me be.
Let me fall, let me fall.
Let me fall, let me fall.
Let me fall, let me fall.
Let me fall, let me fall
I wait.
Sleep for a thousand years.
Another day is here.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
This is the title track of the album, this is "Sing To The Moon.
" Hey there you, shattered in a thousand pieces, weeping in the darkest night.
Hey there you, trying to stand up on your own two feet and stumbling through the sky.
When the lights go out and you're on your own, how you're gonna make it through till the morning sun? Sing to the moon and the stars will shine over you, lead you to the other side.
Sing to the moon and the stars will shine over you, heaven's gonna turn the tide
Hey there you, looking for a brighter season, need to lay your burden down.
Hey there you, drowning in a helpless feeling, buried under deeper ground.
When the lights go out, it's a waiting game.
Never gonna see a day when your world will change.
Sing to the moon and the stars will shine over you, lead you to the other side.
Sing to the moon and the stars will shine over you, heaven's gonna turn the tide
Sing to the moon and the stars will shine over you, lead you to the other side.
Sing to the moon and the stars will shine over you, heaven's gonna turn the tide.
Sing to the moon and the stars will shine over you, lead you to the other side.
Sing to the moon and the stars will shine over you, heaven's gonna turn the tide.
Sing to the moon and the stars will shine.
Sing to the moon and the stars will shine over you, heaven's gonna turn the tide
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
Is it okay if I try a new one on you guys? Okay, cool.
This song is called "Is There Anybody Out There?" Thank you.
It's too late for me now.
Can't be undone in me now.
Gone down deep within me now.
Come take it out on me now.
I was young and free then.
Like a child I loved to love then.
Now there's nothing left in me but fear.
I can see the end is drawing near.
This is the end.
This is the end, before it's even started.
I can't survive.
I can't survive, I'm brokenhearted.
I believed in you then.
You believed in me then.
You took everything I had and more.
Each day I live to give you my all.
This is the end.
This is the end before it's even started.
I can't survive.
I can't survive.
I'm brokenhearted.
I'm brokenhearted.
Is there anybody out there? Who knows.
Is there anybody out there? I won't make it out here alone.
Keep on judging to forever.
Take a good thing, let it start.
Keep on judging to forever.
Take a good thing, let it start
Is there anybody out there? Who knows.
Is there anybody out there? I won't make it out here alone.
Is there anybody out there? Who knows.
Is there anybody out there? I won't make out here alone.
Keep on judging to forever.
Is there anybody out there? Who knows.
Is there anybody out there? I won't make it out here alone.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
I'm just going to do a couple more songs for you.
Hopefully you'll like them.
Thank you for being such a wonderful audience, it's been really cool.
This song is called "Green Garden.
" Take me outside, sit in the green garden.
Nobody out there, but it's okay now.
Be in the sunlight, don't mind if rain falls.
Take me outside, sit in the green garden.
And I'll fly on the wings of a butterfly, high as a tree top and down, down again.
Putting my bag down, taking my shoes off, walk in the carpet of green velvet.
Dance in my garden like we used to.
Dance in my garden like we used to.
Take me outside, sit in the green garden.
I'll go wherever you go, wherever you take me I'll go.
I'll go wherever you go, wherever you take me I'll go.
I'll go wherever you go, wherever you take me I'll go.
I'll go wherever you go, wherever you take me I'll go.
I'll go wherever you go, wherever you take me I'll go.
I'll go wherever you go, wherever you take me I'll go.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
This last song is called "That's Alright.
" Thank you very much for being a wonderful audience, I'll see you again soon.
I will never be what you want, and that's alright because my skin ain't light and my body ain't tight, and that's all right.
But if I might, I must stand and fight
I will never be what you want and that's all right.
I play my own damn tune.
I shine like the moon and very soon, I'll soon fly over you.
And what you gonna do when I fly over you? Tell me who made you the center of the universe? Who made you the center of the universe? Who made you the centre of the universe? Who made you the centre of the universe? And every morning when I wake up I pray for you and then I pray for me that soon you'll see our love can be, my love will set you free.
What's it gonna be? I see the beauty in your eyes.
Tell me who made you the center of the universe? Who made you judge and jury over me? Who made you the center of the universe? Now leave me be.
Who made you the center of the universe? Don't need no rules in my world.
Who made you the center of the universe? I will never be what you want, and that's all right beause my skin ain't light and my body ain't tight.
I will never be what you want and that's all right because my skin ain't light and that's alright
Tell me who made you the center of the universe? Who made you judge and jury over me? Who made you the center of the universe? Now leave me be.
Who made you the center of the universe? I don't need no rules in my world.
Who made you the center of the universe?
Thank you very much.
See you another time.
Thank you.
