Show Review

We've had a snippet of this sweltering session on the site for some time now, but can now proudly serve up a full three song cut of a session with Of Monsters And Men that felt like a year in the making (yeah, they got a little busy). The Baeble crew hopped a jet heading west, rendezvousing in the steamy Californian desert to make it happen, but as you'll see here it was very much worth the wait and effort. Not sure the group of six Icelanders were used to the heat, but they acclimated quite comfortably in front of the pool, pouring out amazing renditions of "Six Weeks", "Mountain Sound", and "From Finner", off their highly acclaimed 2011 debut My Head Is an Animal.

Transcript

And in the winter night sky ships are sailing
Looking down on these bright... Slow, slow me down
Her blood, on my bones Let go, lay to rest
We fall, we fall, we fall We fall to the ground
Sleep, sleep all night
While the young, they wait alone So get up, shake the rust
We crawl, we crawl, we crawl We crawl on the ground
Alone, I fight these animals Alone, until I get home
A wolf, wolf and I
We share the same cold meal.
I float on, float on down
We ride, we ride, we ride We ride it all out
We ride, we ride, we ride We ride it all
Ride, we ride, we ride We ride it all
Ride, we ride, we ride We ride it all out
Alone, I fight these animals Alone, until I get home
Alone, I fight these animals Alone, until I get home
Alone, I fight these animals Alone, until I get home
Alone, I fight these animals Alone, until I get home
Coming back, I'm coming back Coming back, I'm coming back
She follows me into the woods Takes me home
She follows me into the woods Takes me home
Coming back, I'm coming back Coming back, I'm coming back
She follows me into the woods Takes me home
Coming back, I'm coming back Coming back, I'm coming back
She follows me into the woods Takes me home
Coming back, I'm coming back Coming back, I'm coming back
She follows me into the woods Takes me home
- My role doesn't change a lot because I just sing and play the acoustic guitar anyways, but Arnar has to adapt a lot.
- My role changes the most probably 'cause I just get maybe one drum instead of five.
So I have to be quiet.
That's the only difference between the acoustic sessions and the live show.
- Yeah.
- No, I like it.
I love it.
I love everything.
- We like everything and think everything is great.
- I had sun screen leaking in my eyes the whole show.
- Yeah.
I put Vaseline on my eyebrows so it kinda, you know, makes the sweat go around your eyes.
- Yeah, I tried it but I just got burned on my eyebrows.
I heard them calling in the distance
So I packed my things and ran Far away from all the trouble
I had caused with my two hands Alone we traveled on with nothing but a
shadow We fled, far away
Hold your horses now We sleep until the sun goes down
Through the woods we ran Deep into the mountain sound
Hold your horses now We sleep until the sun goes down
Through the woods we ran Some had scars and some had scratches
It made me wonder about their past And as I looked around I began to notice
That we were nothing like the rest
Hold your horses now We sleep until the sun goes down
Through the woods we ran Deep into the mountain sound
Hold your horses now We sleep until the sun goes down
Through the woods we ran Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
We sleep until the sun goes down Whoa-oh, whoa-oh
We sleep until the sun goes down
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
We sleep until the sun goes down Hold your horses now
We sleep until the sun goes down Through the woods we ran
Deep into the mountain sound Hold your horses now
We sleep until the sun goes down Through the woods we ran
Hold your horses now We sleep until the sun goes down
Through the woods we ran Deep into the mountain sound
Hold your horses now We sleep until the sun goes down
Through the woods we ran La la la, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
La la la, we sleep until the sun goes down
La la la, whoa-oh, whoa-oh La la la, we sleep until the sun goes
- I just been, you know, very busy.
Always playing bigger and bigger venues and it's been a pretty crazy year for us.
- It's hard to follow up on everything that's happened 'cause it's happened so fast.
We started playing small, very small shows.
And then, you know, playing like Coachella.
It's just a very big festival and we were very honored to play there.
So, it's been a whirlwind.
It's been like pizza with extra cheese.
- With double pepperoni.
It's the best pizza.
- Yeah, we've been really busy touring.
But, you know, we definitely wanna make another album.
And that's kind of our next goal.
After we finish this touring cycle, we're going to Iceland and we're gonna focus on writing a new album.
Hopefully a better one.
We came here on his back And we caught your eye
The salty ocean wind Made the seagulls cry
The rocking of his house Had me holding on
But I knew that I was safe From there on out
And the waves that hit his face
Marked the past And the furrows on his skin
Oh, how time goes fast And we are far from home but we're so
happy Far from home, all alone, but we're so
happy La la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la
After every sunny day
Came a stormy night That's when Finner would say
Keep your heads held high And we are far from home but we're so
happy Far from home, all alone but we're so
happy La la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la And we are far, from home but we're
so happy Far from home, all alone, but we're so
happy
Hey, hey Hey, hey
Hey, hey Hey, hey
Hey, hey Hey, hey
Hey, hey Hey, hey
Hey, hey Hey, hey
Hey, hey Hey, hey

Artist Bio

Of Monsters and Men is an amiable group of day dreamers who craft folkie pop songs. But last year, the normally mild-mannered six packwhos releasing their EP, Into the Woods, on December 20transformed into total rock stars after stomping out their competition during Msiktilraunir, a yearly battle of the bands in their native Iceland.
