Show Review

The Veronicas might not be as well known here in the States as they are in their native Australia, but twin sisters Lisa and Jessica Origliasso will be soon. Recently, the twins stopped by our offices to perform stripped down, acoustic numbers from their new album The Veronicas; their first new record in six years after a lengthy legal battle with their old record label. We've had a lot of bands stop in at the Baeble offices to play sets, but it's been a long time since we've heard singers with such naturally powerful voices as the Origliasso sisters. When the sisters ran down a Whitney-esque vocal fill interspersed with complex harmonies we got chills. Check out our new session with the girls, and get prepared for an Aussie take-over of the pop-radio here in the States very soon. These sisters are stars.

We are from planet Venus.
We spent a long time on Mars; a couple years, actually.
Mars is the male planet.
And, we were there for a little while.
We learned a lot about the male race, and then we jetted back to Venus to write our music.
the letter 'V' is very prevalent in our lives, being Veronica.
All my favorite words begin with V; Veronica-- - Vengeance.
.
.
- Vagina.
.
.
- Vagina.
.
.
- Vegans, it just makes sense.
- Hmm.
Job well done, standing ovation.
Yeah you got what you wanted, I guess you won.
And I don't want to hear, they don't know you like I do.
Even I could've told you, but now we're done.
'Cause you play me like a symphony, play me till your fingers bleed.
I'm your greatest masterpiece, you ruin me.
And later when the curtains drawn, no one's there for you back home.
Don't cry to me, you played me wrong, you ruin me.
I know you thought that I wouldn't notice.
You were acting so strange, I'm not that dumb.
And in the end, I hope she was worth it.
I don't care if you loved me, you make me numb.
'Cause you play me like a symphony, play me till your fingers bleed.
I'm your greatest masterpiece, you ruin me.
And later when the curtains drawn, no one's there for you back home.
Don't cry to me, you played me wrong, you ruin me.
We're that song you wouldn't sing, just a broken melody.
You're killing me.
You play me like a symphony, play me till your fingers bleed.
Oh, I'm your greatest masterpiece.
You ruin me.
And later when the curtains drawn, no one's there for you back home.
Don't cry to me you played me wrong.
You ruin me.
actually from Australia, the land down under.
And, we were born to-- Day.
And, yeah, we made a record that is out now, in your fabulous country, called 'The Veronicas'.
- Thematically, this record talks about life, death and resurrection for us.
We really do consider it our re-birth back into the pop realm.
I don't know, what do you want to call it? The music-- - The public.
- Yeah, the public.
Because we've been creating over these last few years, but as far as people knowing about it, now is the time to obviously be releasing music, and people hearing about us again.
It's been-- - Yeah, we went through a bit of a challenging period, because we had to get off our old record label, and we resigned with a new label.
And if anyone knows the music industry, that's a long legal process.
It's very boring, and it's very time-consuming.
- And incredibly frustrating.
- Yeah, incredibly frustrating.
So, we had to just like kick those people to the curb.
We brought in some scary lawyers-- .
- And some really big boots.
- And some big boots, like we're wearing today.
And we got off them, and then we re-signed with Sony Music Worldwide.
And, now we're able to finally release this music.
And, some it was written within that period of challenging times, and then some of it was written once we had re-signed with Sony.
So, it's sort of like a good mix between what we wanted to do, and where we are now.
My house, my house, is yours so you can take your coat off.
And you can close the door, my love's not going to run out.
You've asked me this before, I'm gonna say the same thing.
My heart, my heart is yours.
You've gotta learn to trust me.
'Cause I didn't say only 'til the party ends.
No, I didn't say only 'til the money's spent.
No, I didn't say only when the music plays.
Oh, oh, oh, oh, I said always.
Oh, oh, oh, oh, I said always.
You hide your heart away, 'cause hearts just end up hurting.
I am here to stay, just wish you felt like you deserved it.
Your eyes are on the floor, I wish you saw what I see.
I'm forever yours, darling please believe me.
'Cause I didn't say only 'til the fun runs out.
No, I didn't say only 'til this all falls down.
No, I didn't say only if the sunshine stays.
Oh, whoa oh oh oh.
I said always, always, always, always, always, yeah.
What else can I say to convince you? I'm not gonna leave you.
Oh, I'm here to stay, yeah yeah yeah.
Come on take my hand, rest your head upon my shoulder.
I will help you stand, please just let me help you.
'Cause I didn't say only 'til the night time comes.
No, I didn't say only while we're both still young.
No, I didn't say only while the music plays.
I said always. I said always.
- We went for it.
We picked a very experimental bunch of songs for you guys.
We didn't want to do the same thing.
We get bored.
- Being the un-professionals that we are, we don't like to rehearse.
So to try and get us in a room to rehearse is, it's a little tough.
- Well, I don't know if it was rehearsing.
I would call it not un-rehearsal, so it was just experimenting.
I want to leave it.
.
.
trying to lift it to make it more.
.
.
- Yeah, I want to lift it but.
.
.
stop? - I think when you're in this kind of setting, like your lovely studio, and we're feeling good and excited, we want to try things.
Usually to the horror of our lovely musicians that we have playing with us.
They're like, "we've never played this acoustic before.
What are you doing? You're killing us.
" - I don't know what I'm gonna sing, but I'm gonna do some harmonies and shit.
- Okay.
- So, we're like do it, or die.
No, just do it.
We do get to sort of jam a little.
And I feel like keeping it spontaneous is fun.
It's part of the excitement.
We don't want to play the same song 100 times the same way.
We need to keep it fun and exciting for us.
We like a challenge, like I said before.
So, we did that a lot here with you guys.
You got to see it firsthand.
- Fuck - There's not that long of a break.
.
.
- And then 'Everything I'm Not' is actually an old song from our very first album that we've redone in more of a raw kind of way, just on piano like that.
- Yeah, it was fun.
We had that idea.
We did that on our last Australian tour, because it's nice to revisit old songs but we want to, like you were just saying before, we want to breathe new life into them.
And so that song, particularly, because the lyrics are quite honest, and raw, we wanted to give the instrumentation a similar feel.
Because that's actually quite an upbeat pop rock song usually.
So, it was fun to do that.
It was good.
And the fans really liked that.
So, it's nice that we got to capture that on camera.
Oh no, don't go changing.
That's what you told me from the start.
Thought you where something different, that's when it all just fell apart.
Like you're so perfect, and I can't measure up.
Well I'm not perfect, just all messed up.
I was losing myself to somebody else, but now I see.
I don't wanna pretend, so this is the end of you and me.
'Cause the girl that you want, she was tearing us apart.
'Cause she's everything, everything I'm not.
It's not like I need somebody telling me where I should go at night.
Don't worry you'll find somebody.
Someone to tell how to live their life.
'Cause you're so perfect, and I can't measure up.
Well I'm not perfect, just all messed up.
I was losing myself to somebody else, but now I see.
I don't wanna pretend, so this is the end of you and me.
'Cause the girl that you want, she was tearing us apart.
'Cause she's everything, everything I'm not.
Now wait a minute, because of you I never knew all the things that I had.
Hey, don't you get it? I'm not going anywhere with you tonight.
'Cause this is my life.
I was losing myself to somebody else, but now I see.
I don't wanna pretend, so this is the end of you and me.
'Cause the girl that you want, she was tearing us apart.
'Cause she's everything I'm not, but now I see.
I don't wanna pretend, so this is the end of you and me.
'Cause the girl that you want, she was tearing us apart.
'Cause she's everything, everything I'm not.
