Show Review

The origin story of Knox Hamilton's name is a pretty entertaining one. Founded by Boots and Cobo Copeland, the brothers spent their summers volunteering at a thrift shop in their hometown of Little Rock Arkansas. On one fateful day, they came across a yearbook from the 70s, and there, staring back at them was the most rock and roll looking dude ever. His name? Knox Hamilton.

I'm not sure you could call the Copelands the most "rock and roll looking dudes ever." They're hip, amicable, young southerners who found the rest of their bandmates at their father's church (he's a pastor). If anything, the story speaks more to humor and fun-loving attitude that zips through their danceable brand of indie rock anthems. Having recently released an EP titled How's Your Mind and a flashy new single, "Washed Up Together", the band recently dropped in on Baeble HQ for a NEXT Session. While chatting with the band, Boots perfectly lined out the mission statement that guides Knox Hamilton along. "There's plenty of bad, dark stuff that goes on. We all go through it. It's inevitable in life. You can find other emotions in different bands, but Knox Hamilton is there for the sunny times to take you to the beach. It's carefree, sensible kind of pop."

For this performance, the boys whittled that arena-ready sound down to the acoustic essentials, lightening the mood with the most happy-go-lucky instrument out there: the glockenspiel (you thought I was going to say the ukulele, didn't you?). These are easy, breezy presentations of their sound, and the band get into it. "It's always cool to take songs we've played night in and night out and reimagine them for an acoustic setting," guitarist Drew Buffington told us. "It's always a fun challenge."

I know what you're doing when you're falling apart
I know how you're feeling when you're breaking my heart
I know we've debated but it's over, love, that's all for us
Well maybe we can work it out

I know you'd like to take one last shot at me
I know we've debated, but it's over, love, that's all for us
Now why you want to swing at me?

- Hi, I'm Boots from Knox Hamilton.
from Knox Hamilton.
- Cobo and I, we're brothers, he's the drummer in the band and we've been playing together forever, so Knox Hamilton has been writing songs since we were tiny, but we met Drew and Taylor, the bass player in church about six years ago, my dad's a pastor.
So yeah, we've been writing and playing together, touring, for about two years.
So Knox Hamilton is about four years old.
And all of your faults Lay them at my feet
I wanna walk with you darlin'
And all of my fears Keep them from me
I wanna hide with you darlin' sweet
Tonight our little apartment is a house in the heights
And it's lit up so bright by your smile
And you're my music and you're my sound
And I don't wanna get used to not having you around
And I don't wanna get used to not having you around
Moving our bones to our three varied songs
I wanna dance with you darlin'
And loving me now like you loved me back then
I just wanna be with you darlin' sweet
Tonight our little apartment is a house in the heights
And it's lit up so bright by your smile
And you're my music and you're my sound
And I don't wanna get used to not having you around
And I don't wanna get used to not having you around
And you're crying not because you miss me
Not because I'm missing everything
And you're crying but not because, no, you miss me
Not because I'm missing everything
Tonight our little apartment is a house in the heights
And it's lit up so bright by your smile
And you're my music and you're my sound
And I don't wanna get used to not having you around
And I don't wanna get used to not having you around
- We just released our single, first single from the upcoming album "Washed Up Together.
" We worked really closely with the director Titanic Sinclair, he brought the idea to us and kind of instantly we were like, "That's it, that's a winner.
That'll get people watching.
" It's the entire band, and a host of friends, and YouTube influencers and social media people getting vacuum sealed, not all together, but laying down individually on this bed with PVC pipe surrounding you and you get vacuum sealed.
I don't know if you've ever done that, but if you can just like imagine when you vacuum seal your clothes, your meats, meat products, your food, and that reminded Titanic of "Lost In Love," and that's the hook of our new single "Washed Up Together.
" He was like, "I think it matches and doesn't match at all perfectly with the Knox Hamilton single," brought it to us and we completely shared the vision instantly with him.
Washed up together Lost in love
Felt ridiculous doing it.
You knew you looked ridiculous and you knew your entire band was laughing at you and you could hear Titanic like with roaring laughter every single take, he's just like crying.
You're kind of scared of death in the same moment that you're like, "I look ridiculous," and you can't help but laugh.
I mean Drew was like, if you see all the takes he's just like smiling in every little take.
- Just thought that was it, I wanted to go out... - We can't... - I don't think we signed a disclosure...but... - Rest in peace.
- Yes and no.
Legally, no.
One, two, three, four.
Just one look at you I saw the truth
Just one look at you And I crashed into
Mad love washed up Young blood washed up
Do what you want I'll pull my punches
Say what you want Louder than any sound
Feel what you feel I'll do no better than you
All my life
Be what you want If it makes you happy
Go where you want I'll turn the ship around
Feel what you feel I'll do no better than you
All my life
Lost in love Washed up together
Lost in love Washed up together
Castaways overboard and Tidal waves coming for us
Young blood washed up Mad love washed up
Do what you want I'll pull my punches
Say what you want Louder than any sound
Feel what you feel I'll do no better than you
All my life
Be what you want If it makes you happy
Go where you want I'll turn the ship around
Feel what you feel I'll do no better than you
All my life
Lost in love Washed up together
Lost in love Washed up together
I want to go off the map with you Drift away with you
I want to go off the map with you I want to get lost
We're going to get lost We'll be washed up
Do what you want I'll pull my punches
Say what you want Louder than any sound
Feel what you feel I'll do no better than you
All my life
Be what you want If it makes you happy
Go where you want I'll turn the ship around
Feel what you feel I'll do no better than you
All my life
Lost in love Washed up together
Lost in love Washed up together
- "Washed Up Together," there's a really cool hook, like there's "Ohs" like the gang vocal at the beginning, and thought it would be really cool since the bells, the xylophone, the glockenspiel seems to resonate with people on "Work It Out," I thought that would be really cool for the acoustic setting.
And yeah, Taylor just kills it, so yeah the xylophone sounds really, really dope on "Washed Up Together.
" - It's always cool to take songs that we play like night in and out and try to reimagine them for an acoustic setting and kind of like highlight some important parts in the songs.
It's always kind of a fun challenge.
- Really excited to show some new songs off to our people who've supported us for quite a while now.
This young lady, she tweeted at us and said, "Had a terrible day at work, was in tears, got in my car, and Alt Nation played "Work It Out", and now I'm rolling with the windows down, carefree," and that's kind of like the mission, if you will, for Knox Hamilton, is just like there's plenty of bad, dark stuff that goes on and we all go through it.
I mean, it's inevitable in life, and just for Knox Hamilton you can find other emotions in different bands, that's cool, we do as well, but Knox Hamilton's there for the sunny times, to take you to the beach or whatever.
Just kind of that carefree, sensible kind of pop is what we aim for.
Tonight our little apartment is a house in the heights
And it's lit up so bright by your smile
And you're my music and you're my sound

Artist Bio

Fueled by the similar staples within their collective musical taste, the members of Knox Hamilton blend laid back guitar riffs and catchy bass lines with rhythmic drum beats and soaring vocals to produce a sound thats as likely to make you want to visit the beach as it is to move your feet.
