Show Review

Kat Graham can do it all. She has been an actress since a young age, performed as a backup dancer for Missy Elliott, and has recently made waves with a music career all on her own. While a lot of fans know her as Bonnie Bennett from The Vampire Diaries, we know her as an up and coming funk-pop artist. With the help of R&B legend Babyface, Kat's debut album, Roxbury Drive, combined modern pop and R&B with a 90's flair. Her upcoming sophomore album, Love Music, Funk Magic, focuses more on the funk side, which we luckily got a taste of in our acoustic session with Kat and her incredible 6 piece band. Love Music, Funk Magic is set to drop this month.

The first single off of Love Music, Funk Magic, "All Your Love" was released back in October, along with a music video featuring lots of dancing and drag. Her collaborators and mentors for this new album includ Randy Jackson, Babyface, and the late Prince. If that's not enough to sell you on Kat Graham's funk credentials, have a look at her Baeble Next session and get set to groove.

Transcript

This is a Baeble acoustic session.
My incredible band.
We're going to do some songs off the "Roxbury Drive" album, and a couple off the new "Love Music, Funk Magic" album, and yeah.
The first song is called "Baby.
" I'm just a little tongue-tied
I'm just a little shy for you Sink into your reflection
'cause I get weak for you
It's love till you break my heart Give it all to me
It's love till we fall apart Give it all to me
You give me the kinda love That takes me beyond and above
You know I can't get enough of you
You give me the kinda love That takes me beyond and above
You know I can't get enough of you
Baby, baby, baby, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Baby, baby, baby, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
You get a little quiet
but I know you're feeling it, too
No, don't you fight this
I need to confide it in you Need to confide it in you
It's love till you break my heart Give it all to me
It's love till we fall apart Give it all to me
You give me the kinda love That takes me beyond and above
and you know I can't get enough of you
Said you give me the kinda love That takes me beyond and above
You know I can't get enough of you
Baby, baby, baby, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Baby, baby, baby, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Baby, you know you've got all this love right where you
want it Right where you want it
Whenever you want it Whenever you want it
Said you've got my porcelain heart Baby, don't drop it
Baby, don't drop it Baby, don't drop it
Baby, don't drop it
'Cause you give me the kinda love That takes me beyond and above
and you know I can't get enough of you
You give me the kinda love That takes me beyond and above
You know I can't get enough of you
Baby, baby, baby, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
- Come on! Baby, baby, baby, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
- This has been so cool.
I don't usually do this, I like the more the merrier.
You know, the real band is like 20 people.
You know, it's like horns, and there's backup dancers, and there's everything like that.
I mean, doing something like this was really cool, and only I would really do it for you guys because it has to really be in the right environment to acoustically sound good, and it just has to feel right.
But yeah, normally the show is much, much bigger.
You know, I still consider myself a pop artist, and I want all the bells and whistles and stuff, too.
It's nice to be able to strip it away and to kind of feel the energy of the song stripped down.
I think it's really cool.
Lot of young girls know me from a show called "Vampire Diaries," which has been, like, a global hit.
Really totally different from me, but it's been definitely a great exercise, and being able to connect with all these different people from all over the world, and it's definitely helped me.
When I was doing acting stuff... You know, my coach Ivana had always taught me to, like, put every...you know, your own life into your own music.
If I was able to do that, and bridge the gap between what I use in my acting and what I use in my music and just connect the two that maybe I could have a powerful record.
So I wanted to do that.
I wouldn't say that they come from that different of a place.
I think that it should, like, come from, like, the soul.
The seat of the soul.
We gotta cross state lines to find ourselves
Drive a beat up car to a cheap motel Scrub the dishes in the back
to pay our way Feel you wipe the suds from my face
I'm in love I'm in love
So in love So in love
What I wouldn't do to be with you
I'm in love I'm in love
I'm so in love So in love
What I wouldn't do to be with you
They can't keep us apart We've got to be free, yeah
And anything less is highway robbery
Livin' out of a case that says your name Blow the dirt from the road
out of your frames
Goodbyes too hard, we decide to stay
Let the rest of the world just fall way
'Cause I'm in love I'm in love
I'm so in love So in love
What I wouldn't do to be with you
I'm in love I'm in love
I'm so in love So in love
What I wouldn't do to be with you
Hang on love They can't keep us apart
We've got to be free, yeah
And anything less is highway robbery
Hey, mister, you've got an obsession
Lucky for you, I'm headed in your direction
You got me feeling it deep 'cause we got this connection
Hey, mister, you've got an obsession
Lucky for you, I'm headed in your direction
Uh, you got me feeling it deep
Peace and blessings manifest with every lesson learned
If knowledge were your wealth, well then, it would be well-earned
If we were made in His image, then call us by our names
Most intellects do not believe in God but they fear us just the same
I go on and on On and on
My cipher keeps moving like a rolling stone
I go on and on On and on
All night till the break of dawn
I go on and on On and on
My cipher keeps moving like a rolling stone
I go on and on On and on
God damn it, I'mma sing my song
- Woo! You're mad.
Mm... Mm...
Mm... Ooh...
- Woo! Tell me, how long can you make believe? Secrets and whispers between you and me
Elicit explicit consistencies Hold up
Hold up
Being secret lovers just don't cut it no more
Ain't gonna hear it, no, no I'm walkin' out of the door
I don't need to hear no excuses Just want to live where the truth is
Got to be free not to do this
Free to feel the magic Free to feel the madness of love
Free to feel the magic, the passion I'm holdin' on to love
I'm holdin' on to love
I'm happy to wait, but where's my save the date?
I ain't gettin' younger seeing seasons change
I been prayin' just to take your name but ain't no photo of me in your frame
Just so you can make her feelin' happy some more
you're compromisin' my soul Ain't playin' into your role
I don't need to hear no excuses I just want to live where the truth is
Got to be free, got to do this
Free to feel the magic Free to feel the madness of love
Free to feel the magic, the passion I'm holdin' on to love
I'm holdin' on to love
- You know, sometimes when we judge ourselves based on a man's love for us, and when we don't get back what we put in, we chop ourselves down and say love's just not for us.
You know, the right person is out there, but you first have to walk away from the one that isn't the one.
The right one is out there.
Holdin' on Holdin' on
Holdin' on Hold on
Free to feel the magic Free to feel it
Free to feel the madness of love Free to feel the magic, the passion
I'm holdin' on to love I'm holdin' on to love
Free to feel the magic Free to feel it
Free to feel the madness of love Free to feel the magic, the passion
Holdin' on to love I'm holdin' on to love
- I have been making beats since I was 14 years old, like, I got my engineering degree when I was, like, 16, 17, so like, I'm a beat maker at heart.
I love engineering.
I'm glad that I learned it first.
I learned it even before I had kind of honed in on singing.
I was kind of like, rapping a bit, and, like, really wanted to make my own records, so I went to a musicians' institute and got a degree in engineering.
I like to be able to make my own beats and to record my own stuff, and I also feel like I know a good mix when I hear one, and I appreciate really good engineers.
It's important.
I don't get artists that don't know how to make your own shit.
I don't need to do music to be, like, number one.
I want to do music because I love it, and I want to make good music because I don't feel like I'm listening to enough good music on the radio, so I want to create it.
And that's really it.
Like, it's just the most simple, organic, honest thing that I can try and contribute.
Cuff me in love like a criminal Play me like a guitar, rock 'n' roll
Roller coaster, high and low Got me so out of control
Feeling like the keys under your fingertips
Melt like sugar when I kiss your lips Desperate love, illegal risk
Have to have you, need all of it
Give me all your loving here tonight Gonna make you feel all right
Come a little closer, hit the lights You've been waiting
for this all your life
I want your love I want it
I need your love I need it
I want your love, I want your love I want your love, I want your love
I want your love I want it
Give me all your love tonight Give me all your love tonight
Smoke you 'cause I need a hit Wrap me like a Christmas gift
Tangled sheets and poker chips I gamble everything for the love of it
Hot for you like a fire lit so call the police and the government
Rated X, ain't for the kids Give me that back, give me all of it
Give me all your loving here tonight Gonna make you feel all right
So come a little closer, hit the lights You've been waiting
for this all your life
I want your love I want it
I need your love I need it
I want your love, I want your love I want your love, I want your love
I want your love I want it
Give me all your love tonight Give me all your love tonight
I want your love I want your lovin' here, baby
I need your love I need your lovin' here, baby
I want your love I want your lovin' here, baby
I need your love I need your lovin' here, baby
I want your love I want it
I need your love I need it
I want your love, I want your love I want your love, I want your love
I want your love I want it
Give me all your love tonight
Give me all your love, give me all your Give me all your love,
give me all your Give me all your love, give me all your
