Show Review

A couple months back we had the chance to snag an electrifying performance from our favorite wild child, Miss Juliet Simms. It wasn't the first time Simms swung by our HQ...she and her brother originally brought a few Automatic Loveletter tunes by a few years back. At the time her potential was obvious enough...but even we were amazed that her unmistakable rasp and rocker chick attitude earned her a spot on season 2 of The Voice. Once there she obviously destroyed most of the competition, finishing second; a life changing accomplishment that has kept her going ever since.

In the wake of her appearance on the show, we invited Simms back to Baeble HQ for a performance of her solo introduction, "Wild Child" and a newer song, "Click Your Heels". Don't worry. For those who knew this Warped Tour regular before the rest of America did, you will be pleased to know she's still the same untamed vocalist she's always been.

some of you may know, I was runner up for Season 2 and after the show ended I've been travelling all around the world playing shows and been in the studio a lot.
Recorded this single a couple of months ago, Wild Child.
I'm coming in hot
And those eyes keep looking at me, yeah
Ooh and why not? Keep looking, looking
I'm kind of over the top
And I like, like your chemistry, yeah
Yeah let's mix it up, and all you eyes

Cuz I'm a Wild Child, sitting on my throne
Going all out, going for broke

I'm Wild yeah

- Yeah Wild Child is a song about people who aren't afraid to stand out, who are different, who are freaks, who are weird, who have originality to them and they're not afraid to show it, and they wear themselves proudly.
And so this song was-- I mean, I was very inspired by, you know, my fans for this song.
You know when I was sitting down with C-Lo and a few other people, and just even my myself, I was trying to think like what is the concept? What do I want to do as a solo artist? Who do I want to be? What is the sound? And I just-- I looked back at my inspiration, especially from the 80s and the 90s, bands like Heart, and Bangles, and Joan Jett, Pat Benetar, and I-- these women, these rock stars, had such an influence on me and I was looking at, just like what's going on today in the industry, and I miss that, that icon.
That female rock star and that music where the record that you-- the records that stand out for me from all those artists are the ones that you listen to from start to finish and it's a whole album, and you don't skip through songs and you want the whole thing.
And it's real music, with real lyrics, and emotion, and it's not just a mathematical problem of verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus, you know? It's their heart and souls laid out for the world to see and that's what I want to do with this album.
Here I lay in my bed
Wondering how you are and where you've been
I've got scratches on my hand from the guy begging for attention
Your memory on my lips from the other night when you kissed them
Play me subtle and crass
Ten second count and a New Years kiss
And when I lay down tonight
I've been up and down the coast
Left, right, north, east, west, back home south
And I lay down tonight
In North Carolina, Chicago, New York, and Hollywood
And I found nobody other than you
So time is only a noose
With everyday that goes by I'm turning black and blue
Memories feeding my heart
So much, but it only starves
Under the street lights and boulevards
Like a candle that's lit in the dark
I will find
And I will find you
When I lay down tonight
I've been up and down the coast
Left, right, north, east, west, back home south
And I lay down tonight
In North Carolina, Chicago, New York, and Hollywood
And I found nobody other than you
So here I lay in my bed
Some new hotel room, but it's mine for $110
Before I lay down I'm coming home tonight
Cause I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna get you back
Lay down tonight
Well, I've been up and down the coast
Left, right, north, east, west, back home south
And I lay down tonight
In North Carolina, Chicago, New York, and Hollywood
And I, I found nobody other than you
That can make my body do the things it does for you
Like dancing on sidewalks from the beat
of my heart when it pumps
From North Carolina, Chicago, New York, and Hollywood
I lay down tonight
- Love, of course, that's always been a huge inspiration for me.
But just, you know, overcoming barriers and obstacles in life and coming out ahead and just being powerful and strong.
I hope that it inspires them, or can help them in a time of-- like if they are heart broken or even if thy're in a really good mood and they want to be in the car with their girlfriends and blast a song and all sing together.
I want it to be a staple in time for them, you know? I want it to be something they can listen to 20 years down the road and they still love it and it brings them back to when they first listened to it for the first time.
