Show Review

The intense, inspirational touchstones pressing on our latest concert capture are undisguised. There are the kind of arena-ready qualities that powered U2's early songs, the wide open spaces Springsteen's music provide for the mind to roam to, rambling, confessional narratives akin to The Hold Steady's Craig Finn, and the kind of rich, comforting sonic arrangements The National would give a knowing nod of approval to. You'll hear many influences in the music of We Are Augustine's, but also something completely unique to their craft-- something only Billy McCarthy, Eric Sanderson, and Rob Allen could infuse into their dramatic, stratospheric set of rock and roll. It's their experiences, whether the tragic, familial challenges' Billy has endured over the years (read a little bit about his personal story HERE), or the crumbling of their once promising band, Pela, under the overwhelming weight of the industry. This is a band whose members have learned to endure life's hardships and challenges. They've learned to adapt, repurposing songs once destined for a second Pela LP for their anthemic debut as We Are Augustines, titled Rise Ye Sunken Ships. It's a fitting title for a close knit group of musicians who don't let anything keep them down, and their reward is a promising future in We Are Augustines. Your reward is this inspired concert performance from The Launch Pad.
