The English Riviera is a faux-tropical, swig of land on the SW coast of England. Bright colors, palm tree studded beaches, glamerous yachts, money, etc. If France gets the Mediterranean then you can be damn sure the Brits will make the most of their little slice of heaven on The English Channel. The place apparently had quite the effect on Metronomy. They titled their rather splendid 2011 release after the geographic region, and you can hear it. The collection is full of peppy rhythmic elements, slight electro skirmishes, and breezy hooks that conjure up moments of recreation and taking it easy. Of course when the band hits the road, they do nothing of the sort, as you'll see in our latest session video. Earlier this spring we caught up with the band during a workday in New York. Rolling around town with the amicable, English quartet, we had a chance to talk about the hysteria behind their album and even coaxed the band to lay down a few fresh and feel good tracks at Atlantic Recording Studio. It's as bright and chirpy a session as the place that inspired it...our own slice of indie tropicalia we're stoked to be sharing with you today.
