TO TOUR THE US SOUTHEAST IN MARCH,
INCLUDING A STOP IN JONES' GEORGIAN HOMETOWN
Road warriors Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings will continue their 2011 tour in March with an American southeast leg that will include a stop in Jones' own hometown of Augusta, Georgia at The Imperial Theatre. They are currently on a northeast run that features label-mate Charles Bradley as the opening act.
Many thought that Miss Jones and her Dap-Kings could not top 2010, which included the release of their fourth album I Learned The Hard Way which went on to sell over 125,000 copies in the US alone. They played to sold out crowds around the globe, scouring the US, Europe, and Australia; appeared on every major late night talk show including Conan and a return visit to Leno for the holidays; and drew a record breaking crowd of over 20,000 people to their Daptone Revue at Celebrate Brooklyn! However, 2011 isn't looking too shabby for the group either. On Tuesday, January 18th the band opened for Prince at Madison Square Garden. Sharon and other members of the Dap-Kings were also invited back onstage to perform with Prince during his encore. And, to round out their evening, the band performed at Princes after party at The Darby in downtown Manhattan. It was certainly a night to remember and great way to kick off 2011. Says Prince about Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, "Real music by real musicians!"
