It's been darn near two years since last we heard a fresh collection of tunes from one of Chicago's most virtuosic of musical residents.
Andrew Bird - he of the classically trained violin mastery and otherworldly whistling tendencies - last released
Armchair Apocrpyha back in early '07. An impressive gem of an album,
Armchair played like the culmination of the idiosyncratic musician's many sonic talents, scoring big with critics and fans alike along the way. Now Bird's hoping his latest will pickup famously where his last record left off.
Set for a January 27th release on
Fat Possum, Bird's given his latest release the title,
Noble Beast...an appropriate namesake given the gentlemanly musician's monstrous talent as a performer. While not enough has surfaced from
Noble Beast to allow us to form any kind of concrete kind of opinion, Bird himself has not shied from weighing in on his latest effort. In a post in his New York Times blog
Measure for Measure back in June, Bird shamelessly declared, "I listened to my record recently and I'm concerned about how much I like it." Concern? This hardly sounds like a problem to us... -
