In the alternative/hardcore music scene, it is difficult to make a name for yourself. While some bands just about get swept under the rug, there are others that merely get lumped into yet another hardcore music category. However, HIP Video Promo has come across a band that has been engaging the New England music scene for quite a while, but is slowly turning the heads of many music listeners across the StatesLike Waves. Their alternative style of songs captures their existence as a band, but what makes them stand out? The post-hardcore feels within their melodies, along with the ambient musical structures set forth both honest and elemental vocals and melodies.
From the north shores of Boston, Like Waves presents us with music that can be compared to the likes of The Receiving End of Sirens, Circa Survive, Underoath, and Oceana. However, the difference between Like Waves and these other bands is that they have created a unique style that slowly, yet positively drags itself between different music genres. Their previous record, Sirens Before the Silence, as well as their new self-titled release, Like Waves, has taken Massachusetts on by storm, and lighting up the New England area. But it wont be long before Like Waves hits the entire music scene. With their new captivating video for their single "Behind the Lines," we see what Like Waves is made up of and all of their influences that have inspired their likeable music.
"Behind the Lines" is a song about finding comfort within our own natural beings and the self. The fact that the video takes place in the woods creates a feeling of unity between humans and nature. Whether or not we as viewers are religious, the video takes on a spiritual feel that gains recognition for the band. It begins with a natural, slow motion feeling in which we see the singer of the song capturing the feelings of solitude. We then come across an estranged girl who looks like she has been through the woods, searching for the unknown for a bit of time. What we see here is that this woman is plainly fighting with her emotions and the different personalities in which she sees herself. What is presented towards the end of the video, on the other hand, is her inability to find what she is looking for, so she kicks and screams, even throws dirt, at the singer and the rest of the members of the band. The significance of this is to show that there are higher beings, beyond our own control, and although we are frustrated at the fact that we still seek unanswered questions, we must remember that they are always there.
