James Vincent McMorrow (born in 1983) is an Irish singer and songwriter. His debut album Early in the Morning was released in Ireland, February 2010, and in US/Europe in 2011 to widespread acclaim.
McMorrow made his UK TV debut on BBC Two's Later... with Jools Holland on 27 May 2011.
Instant results were never part of the plan, and McMorrow spent the next four to five years learning and experimenting. He charted his development as a songwriter with demos made on an eight track recorder, his first fully formed demo caught the ear of EMI Publishing, with whom he signed a publishing deal in 2008 McMorrow moved to London soon after; but, after spending 6 months there and failing to make anything that he felt was even close to being good enough, McMorrow returned home in disappointment, and spent Christmas 2008 back in Dublin without a real sense of what to do next.
In January 2009, McMorrow moved himself to a house that was offered to him for free and began slowly working on some ideas he'd collected during his stay in London, with no real agenda or plan. Not having a studio or resources, or anyone really caring what was happening with the album, turned out to be a good thing, as he was able to sit there for 6 months working every day, slowly putting the ideas together, until an album was finished.
Mixed by Mike Cave in December 2009 and released in Ireland at the beginning of 2010, Early in the Morning was the record McMorrow came up with. The first year was spent simply trying to get people to hear the album, which they did, slowly. Live shows initially were difficult as James had never really played live before and stripping the songs back to simple arrangements from what was on the album was not easy initially. But over the couse of 2010 he began to play more, more people began to show up, things started to grow, Vagrant records in the US and Believe in Europe licensed the record and released it at the beginning of 2011 to spreading acclaim, and by the beginning of 2012 James had finished sold out tours across the world, including the Royal Festival hall in London, Melk Veig and Paradiso in Amsterdam, Bowery Ballroom in NYC, ands several nights at the Olympia theatre in Dublin.
McMorrow has just finished his second album, recorded in El Paso, TX at the beginning of 2013, which will be released by Vagrant records and Believe Digital.
