ALBUM REVIEWS
• Exitmusic
Passage
With their first full-length album, titled Passage, New York duo Exitmusic pack quite an emotional punch. To call the tracks 'sad songs' would be selling them incredibly short. Exitmusic has found a way to evoke powerful emotions that cannot simply be defined as sad, or happy, or longing. They're much more complicated than that, making the tracks refreshing to listen to over and over again. The album is not themed with love or heartache, but offers a much more complicated look at humanity, something that's hard to pull off in today's cynical landscape. The production balances melodic layers with such precision that it gives the album a strikingly true beauty. Like many emotionally driven albums, the challenge is creating a variety between tracks. Exitmusic struggles with this but with tracks like "The City" and "White Noise," the album creates a nice flow from start to finish.

Their sound is a breath of fresh air and their lyrics will stop you in your tracks. The best example of this success is "Passage," the album's first single. It begins with soft, motoric drums that build as vocal layars create a white noise that will take your breath away. The droning melodies offer a beautifully dark heaviness while the vocals are given an airy delivery. The contrast makes the track unbelievably unique and emotional in everyway possible.

Dark and heartbreaking but with a light and airy delivery, Exitmusic's Passage is a path worth traversing (in any mood).
